It all started with Elvis. Not the undisputed king of Rock & Roll but a home-made signature from Toast. It bore the resemblance of a giant look-a-like Reese. Peanut butter frosting slathered onto the surface of a chocolate cupcake. With minimal “make-up”, it wasn’t appealing but at least, it was unpretentious.

Nestled within the historical national museum lies a culinary establishment. Novus – Restaurant, Bar & Cafe. With the 12 o’clock Sun blazing overhead, it would have been too early to hit the bar. Being an unemployed student, having a meal at the restaurant would have been too fanciful, or rather, a splurge. A visit to the cafe, now that sounds more like it.

Remember the time you got a whiff of freshly brewed coffee. The time you scraped egg whites from the insides of a soft-boiled egg shell. And the time you coo-ed and ahh-ed over the perfect combination of handmade Kaya and melted butter. Welcome back to the good old days.

After slogging in the kitchen and preparing tray after tray of pork floss buns, the trainee baker from BreadTalk is in dire need of a well deserved break. Instead of thronging the streets and joining the GSS crowd, the trainee baker refuses to get off her seat and decides it would be worthwhile to update this space.

The brightly lighted entrance, the human traffic spewing in and out of the restaurant and the dozens of mouth watering dishes on their food display, its so vibrant, its so inviting, it so calls for a visit.
